About Food Innovation Product Award 2019
The Food Innovation Product Award (FIPA) is a food innovation competition that builds on Singapore Food Manufacturers’ Association (SFMA)’s existing collaborations between the industry and Institutes of Higher Learning. Students from the Food Science and Technology courses from ITE, Polytechnics and Universities will partner food manufacturers to develop innovative food products and market launch strategies.
SFMA has organised two editions of the Food Innovation Product Award (FIPA) in 2016 and 2018, and brought together 48 food manufacturers and tertiary students to collaborate and co-create new and innovative food products through an innovation process to gain consumer and market insights, and facilitate the commercialisation of novel food ingredients, processing methods and products.
In FIPA 2019, 21 food manufacturers and student teams underwent a structured 9-month innovation process to develop new prototypes. Home-grown firms Asia Farm, Life3 Biotech, Thong Siek, PS Food & Beverage and Par International clinched the category awards at the FIPA Ceremony on 21 November 2019 where the teams were assessed on the innovativeness of product concepts and feasibility of commercialization.
The participating institutes of higher learning include Nanyang Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic, National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore Institute of Technology an and Singapore University of Technology and Design.
